Lynne Sherry
Let me tell you a story ...
I am a f*cking miracle.
My name is Lynne Sherry and survival isn’t just part of my life; it’s the story I am here to tell. Before everything changed, I was already a storyteller — an Indigenous woman shaped by lineage, memory, and the voices of those who came before me. I was a published author, writing with a steady hand and a clear mind. My book, Where Mary Went, came from that chapter of my life — the “pre-stroke” world I once belonged to. Then everything shifted.
I survived life support three life altering times after a catastrophic brainstem stroke that wreaked havoc in my brain stripping away almost everything I once knew. Faced with overcoming complications, paralysis, pain and uncertainty — obstacles I never imagined would become mine.
What threatened to take my very life away became my mission to defeat. “The
odds aren’t good and prepare for the worst,” the doctor said to my family. But I have come to understand the odds are not the final word, The spirit is and my spirit has the will of an army to survive, after all, I still have a mission here.
I am wheelchair bound and left with ataxia, apraxia and other hurtles that seem almost endless but giving in and giving up is not in my cards.
I am an Indigenous storyteller, a published author, a survivor, and a woman who refused to leave this world before her work was done.
Welcome to my blog. Sit down. Breathe.
I have a story to share with you.
